I just built my first HTPC with a Radeon HD 4550 graphics card (so I can run sound through the HDMI to my receiver), an E5200 CPU, and a BD drive. I use ffdshow and Haali splitter (all 64-bit) for my mkv files and Blu Ray discs and prefer watching them in Vista Media Center (using Power DVD for BD). I love the convenience but feel like the picture for both Blu Ray discs and Blu Ray rips (as mkv) is very grainy and disappointing compared to the PS3. I have looked through and tweaked ffdshow but with no substantial results. Any suggestions? Also I have ATI's Catalyst Control Center installed.

    Thank you

Are you using the correct screen ratio for your monitor/TV? TV's need 16:9, monitors need 16:10...mixing these can cause considerable quality loss.
