Firstly, I apologise, but this seemingly simple procedure has
taken far too much of my time, effort and money with no reward.
I figured it's time to consult the experts =D

    Laptop

Medion MIM 2120 with VGA & S-Video output ports
Mobile IntelĀ® 915 and 910GML Express Chipset Family
    Driver Version: 6.14.10.4543

    Television

    Toshiba Regza 32AV554D
From what I can see it has:
    2 x HDMI ports, 2 x Scart, 2 x Composite Video input

I have been trying to connect the two to be able to view my desktop
on the tv for some time now.
Tried a few different cables (VGA - AV / S-Video - Scart) to no avail.

Could anyone help my misguided venture?

does your laptop have any hdmi outputs,as you say your tv has hdmi inputs this would mean you would only need an hdmi cable to give you audio abd video.if not your tv needs to have a vga or an svideo connection and that will only give video a second cable is needed for audio.a mate of mine has a toshiba regza (not sure if its the same as yours)but his has no vga or svideo,i told him to go to maplins (as they have every cable and adaptor there is)you can buy a cable and an adaptor. meaning you should be able to get an hdmi cable and a hdmi to vga adaptor(connect the hdmi cable to the adaptor and connect the hdmi end in to your tv and the vga end into the vga socket on your laptop)now as your using the vga socket you will only get video so you will need to buy a cable for audio also. an twin phono to jack cable should suit your tv(connect the twin phono end to the tv audio in sockets and the jack end in to the earphone socket in the laptop.before buying the hdmi and audio cables ensure you have the correct adaptor(but maplins will let you change any cable or refund you if it wont work)so keep your reciept. i hope this helps.

Many Thanks for your reply piopat.

Unfortunately my laptop does not have any HDMI output.

I currently have an S-Video to Scart (with audio jack) which although will connect to my television and transmit sound, only shows my desktop
wallpaper and only in black and white.

I will look for a HDMI/VGA adaptor like you recommended, and hopefully
keep you posted on the outcome.

    The quest continues...
