    Hello,

I'm interested in getting an external hard drive and using it as both a DVR connection for a Dish Network box, as well as a backup for my PC. Is it possible to partition a hard drive so it can do both? Or do I need to buy two separate hard drives?

    Thanks!

yes you can partition it as required. I use ntfs (64kb clusters) for my mediapc. I also store regular data on the same partition with no problems. but if you need linux or fat32 partitions that will work also.

Thanks - but do you know if I partition it, will it be able to serve as both a DVR backup and PC backup? My understanding is both need to format the drive for their respective uses.
