Just got a 20" LG W2040T monitor to replace my 15" Dell monitor that shot craps. I was hoping for a better picture honestly. Drivers are installed, it's not bad, just expected better. Do I need a better video/graphics card perhaps? (XP home ed.) Hope this is the right forum, if not could someone point me in the right direction?
Well for starters that is a very poor resolution for a monitor. I hope you didn't pay any more than $100 for it because you can get a much better picture for $160 (1680x1050 or 720p). If you were willing to go to $170 you could get a decent 1920x1080 monitor (1080p). The poor resolution is probably your problem. I don't know what resolution your video card could support though.
So then you aren't even taking advantage of that monitor (that already has low specs to begin with) You definitely need a new graphics card. Without knowing what king of power supply and more importantly motherboard you have all I can recommend for a low end card is something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102876 Technically it's a low/medium end card but the HD5XXX series has native HDMI out which is great (it carries sound!). It also has a VGA port and DVI port as well. Not to mention its max resolution is 2560 x 1600. You could even go as low as $25 and still see an improvement.
