HD TV Tuner Issue

Hello folks!

Feel free to move this topic if it is in the wrong spot.

Here's what I'm wondering about. I have a Tuner that has a connection for the analog cable, and then the connection for the digital connection. It's the HVR 1800. (http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hvr1800.html)

So here's what I'd like to know: If my cable company broadcasts the clear QAM stations, I will only be able to record the stations if there is a connection to the digital hookup right? As long as I only have one connection in the analog input, I will NOT be able to pick up the digital stations, right? I WILL need a hookup to the digital connection, right?
