I have an 8 year old sony 5.1 receiver and an 8 year old dvd player hooked up to some nice jbl speakers. I noticed awhile ago that I got this odd sound followed by a bass sound. Sounds like the work "chick" if you whisper it. I really noticed it in IROBOT because of the loud bass. I only notice it during music, not on the sound affects of a movie. For example when will smith was in his room in irobot and that girl came in and i forget if she or he turned on the stereo and there was a song with loud bass i heard the "chick" sound I mentioned following the bass. Now I know it's there I hear it all the time whenever there is background music during a movie. i am thinking that since when i play my ipod through the stereo it's not the stereo's problem, but maybe something with the encoding of the dvd player or receiver for today's audio formats. I don't even know where to begin, I don't want to start replacing equipment without knowing if I'm replacing the correct equipment or not.

Im no pro, but if it makes that chick sound, especially when bass kicks in..It could probably be ur subwoofer thats damaged..For starters, can U see ur suberwoofer clearly? Or is covred with some meshing..? Sometimes a tear in the woofer could be flapping together, making the noise.. To find out.. Take the speakers to another stereo and see how they play.. Thats all I can think of.. I havent had that happen b4..Good luck. :)
