Hey There, I had some of the same issues before. I didn't have to do much of anything but cycle the TV and the laptop. Power them down and power them back up and see what happens. That would help sometimes but what ended up solving the problem completely was updating my VLC Media Player to the latest version. I'm using version 1.1.2 The Luggage right now and it works great. I download a lot of movies and TV shows via torrents. I don't even watch DVDs much anymore but when I do I always use my HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop.
