My friend gave me his old dvr receiver from when he used to have comcast. I have comcast but just use standard receivers. I tried to hook his up at my house but it wouldn't download the channel guide or tune to any channels. Will this not work at my house or does it need to be reprogrammed or something

I might be mistaken . . but I am under the impression that you need to get your cable provider to activate your box for it to work

Not that I know of . . .

It shouldn't be a problem since you are allowed to use your own equipment as long as you don't receive any channels that you're not paying for
