DVR for use with DirecTV

    We have the basic DirecTV sat box. We'd like to get a DVR to replace our very old VCR. I'm not in the mood to pay DirecTV $7/month for their DVR especially since TimeWarner has been getting very aggressive on its packages. I also don't feel like using TiVo and playing ET every time the box changes a program.

    So, is there a decent stand alone DVR that could replace our VCR?
