Dvd recorder error message Panasonic

My Panasonic Dvd Recorder model DMR-ES10 gives error message of Self-Check in the middle of a project, & have to toss the disc & start over. Occasionally get a message of check disc, they are always brand new.
Tried to contact Panasonic with no success.

Page 44 of the manual has the error codes on it.Maybe your laser lense needs cleaning.
