Handbrake / iPod Touch 3G / iPod Nano 5G

#1 20 Apr 2011 @ 23:25
Greetings,

I was hoping someone could help me to understand two things.

1> Why an MP4 rip of a DVD loads perfectly from iTunes onto my Touch 3G, but when I try to load the same MP4 onto my Nano 5G, iTunes says, "[Movie name] was not copied to the iPod [iPod name] because it cannot be played on this iPod."

2> Why I'm able use a particular Handbrake built-in profile to create a rip which WILL import to the Nano 5G. Thing is, the outfile is much larger than with my user profile.

Thank you to anyone who can shed some light :)

My Touch 3G is v4.3.2.

My Nano 5G is v1.0.2.

iTunes is v10.2.1.1.

I'm ripping with Handbrake 0.9.5. I've created hundreds of MP4s with a custom profile which I recall being loosely based on Handbrake's "iPhone & iPod Touch" profile.

My custom profile is here: http://pastebin.com/YwQPtZNW

The results of my latest rip are here: http://pastebin.com/VrNrfuep

I was surprised to learn that Handbrake's "Apple>iPod" built-in profile will create an MP4 that will play on the Nano 5G.

Here's the built-in profile: http://pastebin.com/srYv9YzM

And the results of ripping the same DVD as before: http://pastebin.com/7aMrP5Q2
