Site update - March 16th 2010

AfterDawn.com has been updated! In addition to renewing the layout of the site we have also speeded up things considerably. The new version has been tested on our Finnish site for several months, and during the testing we have managed to improve the new version even further.

You can now enjoy this new layout at English AfterDawn.com and English Discussion Forums as well! We have also introduced new sections to the site, and re-arranged things a bit.

I ripped a DVD "The Sopranos" and I have a lot of tiny squares (pixellation)

Hallo,
I ripped a DVD "The Sopranos" and I have a lot of tiny squares in my pictures. I hope I can express this with the right words.
I used Magic DVD Ripper.
Thankyou Alexander

I'm not clear about the problem.
You ripped the DVD to the hard drive and those files have squares?
or you converted the DVD to a different format (an AVI?) and those files have squares?

If you want to convert the DVD files to another format (like AVI) use AutoGK.
There is a guide at Afterdawn.

In any case, including your email address in your post, is against Afterdawn rules.

First, if you ripped from a dvd, then the only 2 good rippers to use are either anydvd (trial/payware) or dvdfab (freeware/payware). I wouldn't use magic dvd ripper.

Rip with DvdFab / anydvd

Process with fixvts / vobblanker

Compress with dvd shrink / dvd rebuilder

Burn with imgburn

I ripped the DVD to the harddrive and those files have squares.

I just tried it with AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 and it has not worked neither.

yesterday I tried DVD Decrpter, RipIt4Me, DVD43+NeroRecode without suxcess.

I think also my hardware is not bad:

CPU Intel i7-920
Motherboard MSI Eclipse SLI
Videocard SAPPHIRE ULTIMATE HD3870 512M GDDR4
RAM 6GB

Windows XP

I have ripped DVDs since ages and this is the first time I have those troubles.

Maybe there is something wrong with the DVDs. The last DVDs I have bought I was also not able to rip them proberly. "The Wire" or a Documantion about Portugal has these tiny squares. Maybe a new form of protection?

There's a little pencil and notepad logo, top right of the post - for editing.

Try ripping a disk that had no problems previously - then you know it's the disk.

OK, I will check an older DVD. In addition I am going to ask a friend, who has also a lot of DVDs. I also will try these DVDs on an "normal" DVD Player on a HD Screen next weeks.

I will keep you posted.

It would be really a big pity in case these would be a kind of a new protection.

let me see if im understanding this right. you ripped a dvd to your hard drive. you then tried to play the ripped files on your computer adn there was pixaltion in that????

if thats the case then you have a bad rip. the disc you ripped might be scratched, smudged ect. try cleaning the disc then re rip.

now if you ripped to your hdd and then burnt the files to disc and then get the pixels playing the disc???? could be a couple things. bad media... what kind of media are you useing?
bad burn, bad data transfer. what kind of burner do you have.using?

i use anydvd with clonedvd2 90% of the time best 1,2 punch there is. mostly if i get what you are talking about it cause of the original disc being dirty. and getting a bad rip.
