    OK,

    I have 2 linksys routers. Both Wireless one a G and 1 and B.

I have 1 downstairs ( the G ) internet modem goes into it. Then i come OUT from one of the LAN ports upstairs to the 2 router ( the B ). then out from the B to both of my upstairs computers. The 2 router is DHCP OFF. Both are in the same subnet 192.168.1.1 2 router's IP is 192.168.1.253 my internet is very choppy will stay connected for a while then just die. icon says in still connected i an connect to both routers, but just not the net. This happens alot.
( windows vista ultimate ) all cables are brand new. Is there a settings im missing? the B and G shouldnt make a difference since im only connected by hard wire. I dont use the laptops wireless that often since it sucks , but anyways.. the Cat 5e running upstairs is about 50 feet long. there are 2 computers downstairs . so 3 ports are being uses on the first router and 2 ports are being used on the 2 upstairs router.

    Thanks guys!

The second router needs to be set as an Access Point(AP) or Gateway(Hub/switch). Don't use the WAN port on router B. Use the other four ports since this router is in switch mode. Turn off your wireless broadcast signal on both routers if not in use. If the second router doesn't have AP or Gateway mode then it won't work.

This is normally done using a router and a hub/switch box. Anyways good luck.

The power lines shouldn't be a problem. Did you make you make your own cables. Are the ends connectors clear or shielded? Make sure there are no sharp or unnessecary bends in the cable. That will kill the signal every time. Keep the cable straight as possible through the entire length.

the Cat 5e cable, bought complete or did you put the ends on? i have a reason for asking that. reset both routers so both are factory defaults. i use a wired linksys router in the basement connected to cable modem & a dlink wireless router connected by cable to basement router with no problems. had similar problems as you do when this setup was reversed.

patch cable i got 200 feet from work. it was like this before also.

I did do a reset on both routers... so far so good... the ends are clear.. it goes from the first floor router, down through a hole in the floor into the basement, then across the basement rafters, then makes a 90 twards another wall, then straight up to the 2nd floor and into a router. i have about an extra 10 feet ( for whatever ) all looped up etc .
