I hope I'm in the right section for this question. My Acer laptop hard drive needs replaced and I'm struggling to find a reasonably priced acer replacement. Can I replace with another make of hard drive? If so how do I know that the other make hard drive will be compatable with my laptop. Sorry if this sounds a stupid question, cheers in advance....J

I've had great luck with hitachi laptop drives...WD does a good job too, and they run cool.

I love Seagate's desktop drives, but their laptop drives always fail on me; I don't think they are built strong enough for the abuse I give them. The only seagate laptop drive that I did not get "clicking" from within the first 6 months was the one that came with my PS3...and within a week of putting it into an external enclosure, it developed clicking syndrome as well.
