Having a problem with audio functions on neighbors computer. up until about a week ago he had sound. He really only uses it to play music. He goes into media player and gets this message; "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." Found it to be an error code 10. Going into Device Manager, there is a yellow-circled exclamation next to IDT High Def Audio CODEC. i cannot find any other exclamations causing a conflict with this device. Went thru the troubleshooter to no avail. Please let me know how I can help you help me. BTW-he had a sound card put in a few months back, but it seems to see it now as new hardware. As far as I can tell the drivers are installed as well. THANKS!
Sometimes this error can be fixes by unplugging and replugging the speakers with the system turned on.
how about system restore to before this problem? is it by chance picking up his onboard soundcard & not the pci soundcard?
I'll have to get back over to try the restore point. Whats the difference in soundcards? I know it's the type that plugs right into the headphone-style jack in the rear near the top as if it's stock.
