Well...A friend of mine used to help me build a PC and installed OS and everything. But one stupid thing that he did was install the OS into a D:drive instead of C:drive. I've found no info about it(how to install OS into a D:drive permanently). He took all of my driver discs, video drivers and other stuff...I didn't even know since I was an ignorance of computer. But now I do, and now my PC is acting weird, and then I wan to fix it and reinstall window xp but since my PC's motherboard and graphic are dated back to 2003 - 2004...There is basically no way the drivers to be found. Fortunately I have made a copy of an image of my OS with Acronis Image. But since the boot path points to C:drive always, no matter what when u install OS, but the copy of an image is the image of the D:drive, and now there is also no way for me to get into the window after I restore my window with the image because the computer saying something like cannot recognize the configuration and boot path... So to accomodate it, I have to change my boot path to D:drive permanently so my question is how because there is no way for me to get the drivers anymore.
download the free "paragon rescuekit 9.0 express" it's a bootcd that can fix these types of problems. More than likely all you need to do is change the drive letters. With windows xp there are 2 drive letters. The "mounted devices drive letter" this is the letter that is in the registry in your case "d". The other drive letter is the "partition ID" drive letter, this drive letter is assign to each partition on your hard drive. For the computer to bootup, both these drive letters need to match. The rescuekit will let you change the Partition ID drive letter and that can usually fix your problem. The rescuekit is very useful, and I use it several times to get a restored drive to boot (I use true image too). That will save you problems in looking for drivers.
Awesome! That's very nice of you to help me with this. Cannot thank you enough for this. Anyway, once I backup all my driver, if I want to use them, how can I use them? With drivermax to install them? Because there is no way for me to install them as there is no executed program or file that comes with it. Besides, when detected, there are a bunch of video drivers available on the internet, but I already tried one of them, which is the ATI(OEM) version of Xabre, but it failed and didn't work.
with drivermax, once you reinstall windows, you will install drivermax on that computer and from there choose "restore drivers from backup" browse to where you have your folder with the drivers. It's a good idea to keep the drivermax program on the same folder as your backups, that way you don't have to look for it.
screw drivermax.. it's just more bullshit.. Install windoze and all it's drivers.. then make a straight copy of C to a dvd. WHEN it all screws up (as it is guaranteed to do at some point) it's easy to boot some nice live cd and just copy your dvd back to C
Do you guys know how I can make an image of my window with everything set up as it is now and burn it on a DVD and once I screw up my PC, I could just put my burned DVD with the OS image in the DVD ROM and run it, which reinstall my window without having to set up driver or anything? I used to do this with my SONY VIOS laptop. The laptop has a function of creating a whole backup of the window...I am not sure if this is possible with PC. Or is there any software that could do that?
