Hi,i turned the Pc on yesterday and unfortunately i get a green power light on,but no boot up and no graphics on the monitor.How can i find out if its the motherboard or Powersupply problem.I have measured the voltage on the dvd rom and the spare plugs inside the PC and the power supply is kicking out 5volts on them.The power light is steady on the fromt of the pc and also the fans on the chip and graphic cards are turning. Could it also be a one of my drives.I have two fitted one for storage and the other with windows 7 on.??? I think it looks like a lottery here which part to buy.???? The last time i saw this it was a motherboard but i stil had the monitor with a black screen with boot failure on so that proved the graphic card was ok. I dont think this is an easy one everyone???
the yellow wire should read 12v not read 5v so recheck it again. disconnect all power & data cables to drives. remove all cards & ram but reseat 1 stick of ram & videocard if not have onboard video. try another psu.
you could invest in a POST diagnostic card. as long as you can find the codes significance it will help round down the options. id say motherboard
Strangley enough ive ordered one yesterday.Yeah the voltages were all exactly as ddp said,correct.I have a spare chip x64 athlon 2 4000 so ive tried this and it still didnt boot. I ll let everyone know how it goes. If the graphic card was faulty would i still get a picture on the monitor????? Cheers.???
try another videocard if not have onboard video & try another psu to make certain is not psu problem. try clearing the cmos as have found that to work sometimes to kickstart a stubborn system.
Snag is here its a PCI express card and port and the card i have is AGP ,yes theres nothing easy in life as you well know.I have tried a brand new PSU and the same thing happened no boot up.I get the power light all the fans are on (even on the graphics card)but no boot.I would clear the CMOs if i could get into it???theres no boot so no image on monitor as the monitor has no input.!!Rotten eh?? Fingers crossed i should get the mboard tomorrow(replacement).
can remove cmos battery from motherboard after you remove power cable from computer. count 20 seconds then re-insert battery & reconnect power cable.
I was going to say try a live Cd like Barts PE or a Linux flavor, but if you don't even get a startup screen from your motherboard, its not your hard drive, and if you dont even hear any startup/error beeps it wouldnt be other hardware failure either. It still points to mobo.
Yep was the motherboard got the new one yesterday and swapped it over.It still took ten seconds from turning it on for it to recognise the other hardware connected to it,but once this was done I am back on it. Cheers lads for the help as always.
