booting a hard drive through a usb port

    I was given a hard drive in school (western digital). I loaded server 2003 on it and im trying to get it to boot from home, using a usb port, and i am having trouble. can someone please help. Home computers operating system is vista

    You hardware has to support booting from a USB device.

    Have you tried selecting it from the BIOS?

    yes i tried selecting it from the bios it just starts to boot and goes in a loop to the welcome screen

    You loaded it (copied an image of the install CD) or installed it (Installed from the CD with the USB drive as a target device)?

    If you installed it with incompatible hardware it will not work.

    What are you trying to do?

    dailun, you've pegged it already.
    bmcc4321, that has to be installed thru 1 of those home pc's or you get your problem as described or the BSOD.

    i tried loading it on the home pc chose the empty partition when it restarted it then chose the pc hard drive. I then had to fix it with the reinstallation cd. Next i removed the cable from the home pc hard drive booted from cd chose the empty partition still wont work grrrrr. Now what can anyone help please? thank you
