I have a HP laprop - DV2036ea. Ive had it for 2 years.
The problem is as follows, when i turn it on the lights come on but no screen. Sometimes the HP logo comes at the front and stays there. On very few occasions it will boot but most of the times it doesnt. Ive mangaged to format it and reinstall windows, no change. Ive tried another hard drive. Ive tried different ram, no luck. On the occassions where it pauses at the HP logo I an go to setup where I test the hard drive it says "No IDE Drive"

    Any ideas, thanks.

try using an external monitorto see if laptop screen is good or bad. if still having problem then problem is most likely the motherboard with power adapter also a possibility.

It's possible that there is just some corrosion or dust or something on the pins connecting the hard drive to the mainboard. Remove it to make sure they are clean. If they are, try using it with a desktop computer to see if the drive itself has failed. If the pins are clean and tight, and the drive works good with other systems, then the problem is probably the mainboard.
