If the computer is still working you can do a scandisk (with the boxes to fix errors checked) my computer/c:drive/properties/tools/errors checking/. Or do it from the command propmpt start/run/chkdsk c: /f either way the computer will have to shutdown to run the command on a OS partition.

If the computer is not working and you can't get into the safemode prompt, you need a windows installation cd/dvd to get into the repair console, next when you have a dos prompt type in the command. Remember the correct command is chkdsk c: /f
The best tool, the one I use is a bartpe bootcd. It is very good for running either a chkdsk or scandisk.
