Just last night i guess our power shut off in our house and now my home desktop won't turn on.... When the power went out the computer was in hibernate mode, but not shut off. When i try and turn it on all that happens are the lights in the tower come on and it sounds like the fan is running at the highest speed possible(nothing displayed on the monitor)... and there's nothing wrong with anything else that was plugged in and turned on at the time of the power outage(monitor, external hd, router, etc..)

The computer is a gateway running xp.. if that helps at all

And yes...i already checked all the connections and they're all good

    please help me

moved to correct forum as not a windows issue. try clearing the cmos as have found that to work sometimes on stubborn systems.

Some mainboards can be forced out of hibernate by holding the power button untill it turns back off.

    Back off...like:
Press power to turn system on, release power.

Then press & hold power untill it turns off...this will often be an actual turn-off, not just a hibernate.
