Hi I have a an old computer running a normall ddr memory and I have a stick of memory that i thick that I only put in half way last time i used it, but now I have come to use it, and it still works and that but pick up errors on a memory tester which I think It could be that half damage pin (may be wrong), so I was wondering if there is a repair kit or somthing that I could repair that pin here are some pic (sorry about qual but best that i can get) It looks like that the gold bit is damage a bit, anyone got any ideas? RAM is supposed to have a gap in so that you can't slot it in the wrong way around. How can you only slot it in "half way" last time you used it? Is there any output concerning the errors from this testing kit you used? It's possible that the RAM isn't compatible with the motherboard of the old computer. We could do with some more information really..
moved to correct forum as not an all other topics issue. ripper, he didn't push the ram all the way in on both ends as i've done that a few times. pete, gold pad can be fixed by replacing the damaged pad with a new one then epoxy & solder it in place. did that when working at celestica working on boards for sun microsystems & cisco systems.
thanks for the reply, thats correct didnt clip it in a both ends sorry for the confusion. where can I get the stuff for fixing the damage pad and do you have a tuts on how to repair it? thanks again pete
Fair enough, I didn't realise that could/would cause a hardware issue on the RAM itself. I personally can't help, I would presume it is quite specialist though.
when i worked at celestica, we used dead/scrapped boards to practice on & to use parts of to fix a working board. we carefully peel off & cut the trace we wanted to use & replace.
