So I'm kinda screwed here guys and I'm hoping one of you know of a solution.

I bought a tower the other day, Acer Power FV under the assumption I could just simply hook it up to my TV like I already do with my laptop but I can't seem to get it to work. I don't have a monitor at all, just my tv and my laptop. My tower doesn't have a S-Video, only a VGA.

So faced with the first obsticle I bought a VGA to S-Video convertor cable on the net but now that it's arrived, still no joy. I just don't know what to do. The entire purpose of this tower is to connect to my TV and be able to play movies etc from it but now I'm screwed.

What are my options here? I considered buying a used graphics card with tv-out but the same problem arises with having no monitor to install it. I've tried connecting my tower to my laptop with no luck either.

I wish I could, kinda up against it here without one. With the right cable I see no reason at all it won't connect to my tv but the whole problem is connecting it without a monitor.

There's a monitor on ebay ending tomorrow and it's only at £1 so hopefully no one else will bid on it so I can buy it just to set this darn thing up.

Take a drive down to the local business complex and walk to the dumpster around back. Odds are that you will find some old, crummy monitor there. I find that the 7th is a good day; companies tend to order on the 31st or the 1st, so their old bits are in the trash on the 6th-8th.

So I bought a monitor on ebay and surprise surprise, no power lead for the monitor. Typically my luck haha.

Anyway, I've ordered a power cable off of ebay and hopefully it will be here tomorrow.

IF it comes and IF the monitor works, I'm hoping I can turn it into a server with both laptops connected to it. What I'd really like to happen is hook the desktop up to my TV and completely control it from my laptops. This way I can download and watch movies on my TV via my desktop via full laptop control.

Is this something that is possible without me sinking more money into this? My worry is that with only a VGA hookup on this that I won't be able to hook it up to my TV at all. IF that is the case, is it still possible to store all my movies and what not on my desktop while playing them via a network to my laptop with my laptop hooked up to the tv?
