im trying to fix a emachines computer. it powers on fine but like right after the loading vista bar goes away it turns off by its self. i've tried doing a fresh install of the windows but the same thing happens. i've even checked the temperature and its fine its where its supposed to be.

my thinking is that it is a hardware issue. first have you tried starting in safe mode? I'm not familiar with vista...I went from XP to windows 7, but I assume that vista still has safe mode you can start into. safe mode only loads the critical drivers needed to load.

if no luck in safe mode, try unplugging all the hardware you don't need then try loading windows.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

Most everything in an eMachine is trash...it is just as likely that there is a bad mainboard, crummy ram, or an underpowered CPU cooler.

I strongly disagree about Emachines being trash.I got my w3115 3 years ago and I couldn't be happier.I have had a few problems but those were caused by my own stupidity and were easily resolved. As far as psu, mine is 300w and my gpu requires a min.of 350w and has worked flawlessly for 4 months now.As for the OP's problem,I suggest you unplug your pc,remove the cmos battery and push the power button. Then replace the battery plug in the power and turn it on.I have brought more than one pc back to life like this and with any luck it just might for you as well.
