i try to use my external hard drive on other computers to watch my videos or listen to my my music but it wont let me access it. it keeps telling me access denied on every folder i try to open or every file i try to run.

it says that to every folder i try to open. ive tried all the basic stuff that i know to try and get it to share. like going into network and sharing and turn on sharing and stuff but it doesnt change anything. i even tried right clicking on the hard drive and folders and clicked on share and tried giving permissions to all users but it keeps telling me access denied. this is driving me crazy! every computer i try it does this. the computer i am trying to get it to work on right now is a Vista. please help? everything i try to do it just tells me i dont have permission to share these files or folders...

    1. try to take owner ship of the external HDD, go to sharing and security -->Permission-->Advance-->Owner-->select the user you want to apply access right's and then check "Replace owner" apply and ok.
    2. While you add the everyone group back to the security tab, please click Advanced, highlight Permissions, click Change Permissions, and select the box "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object".

    try those.
