i have a western digital 500 gb passport external hard drive.

on my computer i have a asus k8v deluxe motherboard with an amd processor.

when i plug in my external hard drive into the computer it shows up as a "initio default controller class" instead of showing up in file explorer as a hard drive.

    i am using windows xp

i also have plugged this drive into several other computer and it works in those. so i think its something with this computer.

    thanks for the help.

i blame drivers. make sure to install the chipset/usb drivers for your board from manufacturer website. post back with how it goes.
