This morning my sisters laptop started playing up. It is an Acer Extensa 5220. What happens is when it is turned on instead of being greeted by the Acer boot screen the screen is completely white until you get to the user select screen. After that it spontaneously but frequently hangs, lines form on the screen, snow appears on the screen and the brightness keeps fluctuating. if you tilt it certain ways it will go back to normal as long as it is in that position. It is for this reason that I think that it is a loose connection in the LCD unit or between the LCD unit and the computer. However I am not sure and therefore I need some guidence on what to do. Please post suggestions. Thanks in advance, James.
if this is happening before it loads windows then is not a driver issue but hardware. can be a loose connection or the system ram needs to be reseated.
That does depend on if the gpu drivers have added a splash screen like nvidia do sometimes.. and the mobo splash is disabled. Just thinking out loud.. I see lappys in various states of brokenness and odd things happen. Sometimes it's worth a root about in the bios to see if there are any odd graphics related settings which may have been tampered with.
Will try reinstalling the graphics drivers. If that doesn't work I will take to the computer shop with the warranty and get a new one. Not really familliar with the bios so I'll have that as a last resort. Thanks. UPDATE: When I turned it on startup repair started with startup repair in colour and the splash screen in grey scale like this but without the icons and writing. Could this be related? UPDATE 2: I don't think it is. Startup Repair just finished and it hasn't rectified it.
