It's worked-out cheaper than getting a PCI SATA card with boot ROM on: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130442839123&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT It's just so though I can boot the drive through into BIOS and try to salvage it which I suspect has a corrupt or bad directory however it's turned-out that it's rendered my PC inoperable because when I turn it on it powers up, but there's no display so it doesn't even get in to BIOS so if anyone can help me. The chip on it's Silicon Image and it has 2 jumpers one of them J2 which I left it on before reading the instructions and the other LED. The last one was meant for the hard drive but I wouldn't have expected an incompatibility would've rendered my PC inoperable, but I switched it to LED anyway though the damage was already done if it caused that. I chanced it on my spare older P2 same model DELL PC which I'm using right now to access the Internet and the PC boots-up, but not the hard drive which makes me think the converter blew as well apart from an incompatiblity though I haven't chanced it on the J2 setting. I could but I'd need to get a new PC first and I'm thinking of getting a DELL laptop for around 200 pounds from off of eBay soon.
No but I didn't expect it to write off my PC altogether if that's what it's done. That's why I'm on here to try to see if anyone can point me in the right drection of fixing it if it can be done but I expect not. I find adapters run alright with IDE but not SATA drives so if I get a laptop I could get a docking station for SATA drives but I won't be able to salvage my SATA drive unless I have access to a PC that runs SATA natively or bootable PCI
try clearing the cmos to see what happens as it has worked for me a few times when pc would not post.
Thanks for the link, but my screen is completely blank like I said as in black in other words my monitor won't switch on when my computer is powered like it did before and I should've pointed-out before the power light comes on amber instead of the usual green.
