Hard drive issues

    my computer with vista installed has stopped working, i have a second pc with xp installed, how can i open up the vista hard drive on my xp computer everytime i try to connect it, it doesnt recognise the hard drive, or says no bios installed, i have loads of stuff on the drive i need to get at, so any help would be apreciated thanx ,

    did you take the drive out of the vista pc & connect it to the xp pc as a slave or what? is the drive a sata or ide?

    yes i took it out of the vista computer and tried it in the xp computer...the drive is a sata drive...

    when put in the xp computer, was the drive set as boot or slave?

    cant see any jumpers on the drive, does that mean it would be auto set to master?

    in the bios which drive is 1st in the boot order, the xp or the vista? sata does not use jumpers to designate master or slave.

    my xp drive is set 1st in the boot order
