Hi, recently my old HP pavilion t340.uk broke. It was booting up and making a weird noise going to a big error screen. I took it to get it repaired at a computer shop and they said it was the switch that was sticking in in calboration with a new graphics card i'd recently put in. I had a old radeon 9200 in there, and had recently replaced it with Geforce 6200 (slightly better) but that apparently broke a PCI slot but they made out I could never put in another graphics card even though I have like 2 other PCI slots spare. They fixed my PC and installed a Intel 82845G Graphics Controller (whatever that is) and that was it. Computer fixed, but not much ability to play games anymore. I can play Red Alert 2, really old games but not much else. It has no T & L or Pixel Shaders. If the PCI slot is broken, cant I just but my old radeon back in another PCI slot? Or do you think the problem goes deeper than the PCI slot being broken? Sorry for long explanation, but it was neccessary.

I have no idea, it depends how it is broken. Do you only have PCI slots, or is there an AGP or PCIe slot on your board?

it has 4x agp slot.

JParkes, you have onboard video besides that card you tried to put in so check to see if they charged you for that Intel 82845G Graphics Controller which is your onboard videocard.

They didnt charge me. They told me it was onboard, and to be honest the onboard isnt too bad. It has 64mb but nothing else. As far as I know my computer has PCI slots. I wasnt aware it had any AGP.
What I dont understand is why the guys at the shop said I wouldnt be able to put another graphics card in. Surely I can if I have some spare slots.
One AGP and PCI. Just remembered that both graphics cards I have are AGP. Maybe thats why they told me I wouldnt be able to put the same cards back in. Because the only AGP slot broke. Do they even sell PCI Graphics cards anymore??

Isn't too bad? Well so far as it works. It can basically only render the desktop, that's it.
