How to setup RAID 0 with an Asus CG5290-BP007 and 2 Velociraptors?????????
I bought an Asus Desktop CG5290-BP007 at best buy, when I opened it says RAMPAGE II GENE/CG5290/DP MB
If you want to see the link here it is: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...d=1218092150864
I bought 2 Velociraptors 10,000 RPM and I already connected them and installed them, I have a concern, when I plugged the velociraptors, one it is on the port 1 and the other velociraptor is on port 3. Does it affect in order to make appear the RAID option in the bios? Because it does not appear, it jus appears, IDE and AHCI. How come it does not appear there RAID in the bios? What am I doing wrong?
I don’t know if this link it is exactly my motherboard, it seems that my desktop came a little bit different than this motherboard or they designed special just for best buy, I am not sure about it.
http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=6i86Hj0lGriFHfY9
I took several pictures to show you what appears when I turn on the computer and press <Del> to enter in the bios and when I just turn on the computer and I don’t do anything.
I went to Asus website and I downloaded the manual for Rampage II Gene Motherboard, I was reading it and It says that Intel Matrix Storage Manager option Rom utility will appear when I press CTRL + I , I tried it several times and nothing happens, is that option working in my Asus Desktop CG5290-BP007 ?
Please help me what to do, I would like to install Windows 7, my hard disks are not formatted I think so, I just opened them and installed them in my Asus. Tell what steps to follow in order to setup RAID 0 in this computer.
Thank you on advance

How to setup RAID 0 with an Asus CG5290-BP007???????
I bought an Asus Desktop CG5290-BP007 at best buy, when I opened it says RAMPAGE II GENE/CG5290/DP MB
Asus CG5290
motherboard: Rampage II Gene Micro Atx
Processor: Intel I7 920 (2.66 Ghz)
Ram: 9GB
HD: Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM
Windows Vista Home Premium 64
If you want to see the link here it is: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...d=1218092150864
I removed the Seagate and I put 2 WD Velociraptors 300 GB each and 10,000 RPM, I have a concern, one it is on the port 1 and the other velociraptor is on port 3.
Does it affect in order to make appear the RAID option in the bios? Because it does not appear, it just appears these options: IDE and AHCI. How come it does not appear RAID in the bios options? What am I doing wrong? Or what do I have to do in order to setup in the bios as RAID?

Do the velociraptors show up in the BIOS in your 'hard disk priority' page? Normally I would recommend you use a matching pair of S-ATA ports to setup RAID, i.e. 1&2 or 3&4 or 5&6, but they should at least be detected by the RAID controller.

sammorris,
I have a big concern, one hard drive is on SATA port 1 and the other velociraptor is on SATA port 3.
Does the port order affect the functionality? What I want to say is, do they need to be together for instance SATA Port 1 and SATA 2 Port in order to appear in the BIOS options as RAID? because it does not appear any option to select RAID in the BIOS, just appear these options: IDE and AHCI. How come it does not appear RAID in the bios options? What am I doing wrong? Or what do I have to do in order to setup in the bios as RAID?
I think that you are right, I will give a try for what you said.
here is another picture that you can appreciate what I say, look the right side and look the options, it does not make sense.

Those drives with that board will not be any faster than just one of the drives without RAID. You are better off just using them as JBOD...two fast disks is better than one slow disk with reliability problems.

Do NOT use JBOD. Just use the drives on their own. The two terms are not the same.

JBOD = Just a Bunch Of Disks
This is what real raid cards call using a single drive, without specialy initializing it. I know there are a few software RAID bioses that initialize disks and call it JBOD, but this is technicaly wrong, this is single disk RAID.

JBOD via a controller I believe bonds the drives as singular in much the same way RAID0 does, but without changing the redundancy or offering any extra performance. I can think of no purpose for it. Rather than confuse things with the term JBOD, I simple leave it as 'not using RAID'.

I asked you to check if the drives show up in the BIOS. RAID should work without needing to flash the BIOS.

It shows in the bios, now what do I need to do?
please let me know
I want to put them on RAID 0 or JBOD that I read, what's the
difference between RAID 0 and JBOD on performance ? on safety I know that JBOD is safest, but on performance ?

JBOD is not safe. It is safer to not use the RAID controller at all. RAID1 is the safest, but you lose half your space. Two 300GB drives add up to 300GB, not 600. RAID0 is what you want for speed, but is less than zero redundant, if one drive goes, BOTH drives lose their data.
To setup RAID for your board, consult your motherboard manual, it's been a long time since I used software RAID (because it's pretty naff really)

Just go into bios and dissable the RAID controler...it completely useless unless you want RAID1 (and I don't think you care if you loose data).

Thanks guys for the answers,
What about JBOD? the performance is similar to raid 0 or still raid 0 will be the winner on speed?

JBOD offers no increase in performance, but the same lack of reliability, so is pointless. RAID0 is also pretty pointless for velociraptors really.
