I bought a 1TB external hard drive to open up space on my desktop hard drive. How do i transfer or what kind of files or programs can i transfer to my external drive? I have already transfered all of my picture files. But my desktop hard drive is still almost full and i have all that space on my external drive? Can i transfer all of my program files as well and still be able to use them on my desktop as long as my external drive is connected? Thanks for the help.

transfered as in copy & paste or cut & paste? programs have to be installed on the external hd or they won't if you cut & paste from internal hd to external hd. how big is the internal hd & how much of it is free?

I'll have to check-but as far as free space-the last i remember it saying was 11% free space. i was thinking all i had to do was drag over-as in copy/cut and paste. but you are saying i need to re-install them onto my external drive huh? that makes sense.

Are you saying you want to install programs on the ExternalHDD so you can run them from the ExtHDD? This doesn't sound like it would
work very well. My PC's HDD is very full as yours is. What I did was to drag and drop the Installation files of programs. To make it simple if you have the .exe for a program, just drag and drop it to a folder on the ExtHDD. But don't install it on the ExtHDD. Then if the program stops working on your PC, drag the .exe back to the PC and re-intall the program.
