I've been repairing/replacing DC jacks on laptops for the last year now and I've just now come across the first one that makes no sense to me... Here are the symptoms:

    -Will run off of battery
-Won't turn on with wall power - It's not intermittent at all, so wiggling it doesn't do anything
-The DC jack connects to the mother board via wires+connector, so it isn't soldered on the board.
-I've tested the wires and the connector on the mother board, and I'm pretty sure that isn't the issue.

So if it isn't the DC jack, the connector on the mobo is getting power and it works fine off of the battery, what else could it be? I'm stumped...

the fact the battery is still being charged shows the problem is with the motherboard, either a diode or transistor. look at the board both top & bottom to see if see any fried components(doubt it tho).

Thanks for the reply, but the battery isn't charging - it will run off of battery power but but not wall power. Now the battery is dead so it wont run off of anything.
