every time i go online with the winxp home sp3 or winxpro sp2 it slows down, realy slow..... it's a dell lattiude c840 pentium4 2.0GHz 1GBof ram a gefore4 32MB, a 40GB hadrive with a cd-r burner. i use a wifi n card.with 2 batterys. my other dell laptop does not slow down at all it's a dell lattuide c610 petium3 1.00GHz 1Gb of ram, ati radeon video card. i just don't get why my other laptop the pentium4 2.00GHz slows down to a craw online? i even got a laptop cooler for it on ebay, but it still , goes real slow online... what can i do to fix it?? p.s. i have tried afew luix cd's, like "kill bill os" and "dam small os" and all does not do this online.it only seems to do this with windows???
I would try using a wired connection first; sometimes wifi cards just don't work very well. Also, there should be a built-in wifi adapter; you should not need a wifi card.
my laptops don't have a built in wifi card, so i use a wifi n card.it runs good on my home network, but when used at the libbray or any where else it slows right down the petium4 laptop does.
killer, that laptop doesn't come with builtin wireless as i checked dell site, it is optional. pspndsps3, does the p3 do the same thing as the p4 at the library as both are alright at home? i presume the p3 has wireless card, what make & model is that wireless card & that of the p4 if not the same? other possibility is that the library network is so loaded that each pc only gets a fraction of the signal download that they don't get at home.
might be a power issue as it's prolly running on battery at the library and the wireless device is causing it to go to a powersave mode
