I bought my portable harddrive about one and a half years ago. It's a Western Digital 500 gb external harddrive. It was working fine until one day the ac adapter light was blinking green. I googled it and found out that this particular harddrive had a known adapter issue and that the blinking green meant that the power supply is dead. So I bought a new one from a different company and the light is on and green but when I plug it into the harddrive the light shuts off. Does anyone have any idea of what I should try? Any suggestions are appreciated.

When the power supply goes bad on any of my external hard drives, I typically buy a whole new case w/ power supply. It's about as cheap as replacing the power supply.

Just open up your case to see what kind of hard drive it is, SATA or IDE and do a search for a case. I typically get mine from Newegg or Geeks.
