i presume you are talking about memory card readers for digital cameras that also has a usb port too?

These things normally plug into one of the motherboard usb ports.. they are standard layout on every pc have seen in the last 9 years.

It should have one with it.. if not you will probably have a hard time finding one to buy.. the motherboard end isn't a problem.. but the device end if it uses some kind of plug might be impossible.. We are talking about an internal one here aren't we.. not a bog standard usb little box?

when we had just the dell pc, the reader stopped working and it was still under warrenty, so they sent a new one out, when i went to install it i saw the connection was loose pushed it back together and it worked fine, that is how i ended up with another reader and no cable.

hi me again, ive connected everything up but it is not accepting the drivers, saying it is not for this system? the brand of the reader is a TEAC CA-2OO dont tell me that dell wont allow you to put this reader in another system, surely TEAC is not owned by dell or am i doing something wrong

    (1) does it matter that it is not a dell pc?
    (2) i have downloaded drivers from different sites but with same results, not for this system, isnt there anywhere where it is not for a dell pc or as i said is teac part of dell.

Make of pc should make no difference at all. It's not like you buy dell and can only run "dell xp pro" on it is it?

I have a funny feeling the device isn't identifying itself properly or is broken in some other way.

Now what format are those drivers/ .. are they exe or a few files and a .inf.. I don't have a winduhz comp here today.

A self extracting and installing .exe can be split.. using a bit of dos trickery... then we can use device manager to update the driver.

they installed until the last thing, then got message on screen saying these files are not for this system. thats why i said in above about dell owning TEAC and not allowing install on non dell systems.
