I was given a dead Gateway model M-6846 laptop with a 320 gig hd. I have a HP Pavilion m7480n desk top. Will the hd from the laptop fit in my desk top? I think they are both SATA drives.

    Thank for the advice.. hogan

it'll work as long as you have all the right adapters to mount it in your case. The 2.5 drives use the same sata plug as the 3.5 drives.
The only drawback is some laptop drives operate at 5400 rpm and will be slower that a typical 7200 3.5 drive.

Thanks, The laptop belonged to a friend who wanted her kids pictures off the drive. It won't stay in my computer.
    Thanks again.
