My laptop, which is Thinkpad Z60M 2529RCU, is always super hot. And I do mean always. Even right now. No matter what I'm doing, it always super hot. And when I try to do a lot of things such as watch a streaming movie online or open a lot of tabs in multiple windows on firefox then the CPUs go so high that my Thinkpad just shuts off. It is very frustrating. I can't even open certain programs because the CPU usage goes so high that it shuts down before the program finishes loading up. i.e. JDownloader. Someone I was briefly talking to gave me some advice but I haven't seen him since then. He said: So, my questions for you all are: 1. Regarding the fan slots mentioned above, what are the best large 120mm fans that I can use with my Thinkpad? 2. What's the best cooling pad that I can buy? 3. What the best cooler I can buy OR do you agree with his recommendation of the Thermaltake Frio being the best cooler that I can purchase now? I pretty much only use Amazon to order products. The guy that gave you that advise thought you had a desktop; it is all BS when it comes to a laptop...and #2 is BS even for desktops. The first thing you should try is to remove the battery. If it does not get superhot without the battery, then you know the battery needs a refresh or replace. Otherwise, you probably have to clean it out...you can try canned air...if that does not work, you can open it up for a complete cleaning...and mod the fan to run at 100% while you are in there.
Hmm, I never thought about that. I have never replaced my Thinkpad's battery even once since I bought it back in 2006. How often should one replace their laptop's battery or is it pretty much good for the life of the laptop unless it specifically causes problems? Update: I removed the battery for a couple of minutes; it still runs super hot. It literally burns my hand if I leave it there for longer than one second. It's ridiculously hot.
@pcrepair - I'm not sure if the fan is working or not. I don't know what "overclocking" is so I'll guess it hasn't been overclocked...
if fan is working you'll feel the moving air against the back of your hand when wet. you have thermal issues which is why the cpu is doing a thermal shutdown to protect itself. check this link for your Hardware Maintenance Manual http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/39t6195_01.pdf so you can see how to get access to the cpu heatsink/fan assembly.
