I have 2 ide hard-drive i want to use for storage and im unsure how to set the jumper.I tried a few option and only one drive shows. Both drive are seagate barracuda 120gb and 400gb and will be running on the same ide cable. So what would be the appropriate way to set the jumper?
do master on 1 drive & slave on other drive. if a dell machine then try cable select on both if master & slave doesn't work.
strewth.. rocket science question.. like.. these settings have only been around for 20 years and STILL people can't find an answer for themselves.. or grow ONE braincell??
ddp the only setting that seem to work for now are both drive on cable select thx for your input much appreciated
Nevermind didnt worked with both on cable select when i tried to access the drive it froze than disapear, couldnt see it in device manager either just like before only one drive shows the 400gb Nope not a dell, using a p35-ds3l board and windows 7
I change the ide cable, both drive shows but cant access the 400gb the 120gb works fine The 400gb is set on master and the 120gb on slave
or even initalised try start right click my computer manage disk management and right click the drive
both drive are formatted and works fine on their own,a friend is bringing me an ide to sata converter ill see if this works
ddp the drive is formatted and partitioned gurnard the drive set to master is at the end of the ribbon which is the dvd drive and the 120gb is set on slave on the second connector, the 400gb is on sata1 through a ide/sata converter and the 250gb is on sata0 no converter pcrepair the drive show as active in device manager,i dont know if it matters but the file system shows as raw not ntfs i just put the drive in my external enclosure set on cable select and i was allowed to reformat, did so and the drive now works again.using the ide/sata converter should i set the drive on cable select master or slave ?
hi ideally it should be set at master for an external drive if ide from this statement the drive is a sata drive...so therefore has no jumper
hi don't know much about converters..but judging from what you say..your going from ide drive to sata slot on mb..if so i should think that the drive should be set to master
yea im going from ide drive to sata on mobo using a converter, dont know much about a performance differance but it works and seem stable with the jumper set to master thx for your input guys
