Am considering upgrading my HP-compact DC 7900 computer with more memory. Keep in mind that I am still new to the upgrading process, but very much trying to get my head wrapped around some of this. From what I have learned my machine has 2- DDR2 1024 mbytes 400 mghz memory sticks in it now. They are dual channel and have a dram freq. of 399 mghz. It shows that I have 2 gb. total and I would like to increase that to 4 total. the first question I have is that in the specs for the ram on my Speecy program it speaks of dual channel in regards to the memory. Do I need to have dual channel capability in the memory that I am adding ? Also would anyone know the max.gb. this system would handle? I'm not too worried about physically installing the memory , just concerned that I am installing the correct and best match for the money. This machine is used for general computing and surfing the net. Not a gamer,so don't need some really high end and pricy memory if possible. Any help or advise you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks.

Want to thank all who responded to my post. Want to especially thank JST1946 for recommending Amazon. When shopping for electronics or parts tend to forget Amazon. Also special thanks to ddp for providing the link for the hardware manual. Printed the whole thing out ( all 65 pages) and I think it will answer a lot of my questions on upgrades. Also will be a great reference. Thanks once again for all the help and advise.

Glad to make your acquaintance. I am a fellow Veteran from the Vietnam era. Was in the Navy, but never got close to Vietnam. I got out in Sept. of 1969.
