I'm currently running Windows 7 on a custom built PC. My hardware includes: Pentium i7 @ 3.33ghz, Asus Rampage Extreme II motherboard,Corsair 6gb Ram, Sapphire Radeon 4800 video card This is a new problem, and I'm not sure if it's my OS, hardware or device conflict. When I attempt to plug any type of usb device into one of my ports, my computer will restart. If I leave the device plugged in, my computer will recognize it and I can use it without further issue, with the exception of my USB flash drive which will cause my system to continually restart until I remove it. What I find really strange, is that my computer restarts the second my device touches the USB port, even if just the corner of the USB touches the port it restarts. Any ideas??
recheck the wiring of the usb from front of case to motherboard that the wires are on the right pins. i presume when you mean "external case" you mean the computer case & not external usb hub?
Yeah, they are hardwired into the case itself. I contacted the manufacturer of my case and they are sending me replacement usb ports. I know they're not hooked up wrong because they worked for a long time until recently.
look at the circuitry around the motherboard connectors for the front usb ports to see if any of the chips are blown. had that with a customer who shorted out the front usb ports.
Reinstall the drivers if that dose not work, see if their are updated drivers if that dose not work find a older set of drivers. USB cock ups are more due to drivers than hardware, at least in my experience it has been.
