My computer was experiencing all kinds of errors. Random lock ups and restarts and blocking me from having access to any specific sites (like microsoft). Anyway it turns out i had the conficker virus which i removed

Anyway, onto the point of this thread, when i was researching the problem i was told a possible cause was overheating. I downloaded speedfan and these are the results from my CPU on idle:

As you can see, not looking good. Infact a few minutes after this screen grab my PC turned itself off. And its contributing to a shit load of lag and sluggish browsing with only firefox and MSN open. Im now looking for new fans to replace my old fan to see if it will help. Also i'm thinking of purchasing a new processor (specifically this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-HDZ940XCGIBOX-Phenom-Quad-core-Processor/dp/B001NFT2RI/ref=pd_cp_ce_2 ) since my current processor is going to be ruined or overcooked by now

Any recommendations on what is the best fan for me. It needs to be compatible with an Asus P5Q Pro motherboard.

    Thank you

You won't fit an AMD CPU in an Intel motherboard, that won't work.
There's no excuse for a PC as modern as yours to be overheating that badly, clearly the cooler hasn't been installed properly. Clean off the old thermal paste and apply new paste.

Ive already done that but it didn't seem to help. Ive also used canned air and thin cotton swabs to clean dust off the fan blades(they were caked and i thought it was blocking air flow), and this is after both of those attempts

Seriously, there is no possible way a CPU as efficient as the Q8200 gets that hot unless either the cooler is incorrectly fitted, the cooler is faulty, or you don't have any fans in your case.

By cooler, do you mean heat sink? Cause when i was purchasing components to build my PC, the guy that was helping said you only need the thermal paste and heatsink doesnt do anything to help that the TP doesnt. He just said the thermal paste goes ontop of the CPU slot and the fan gets fitted ontop of the thermal paste.

So what are you saying? Your PC wouldn't work at all if you only had a fan and no heatsink.

Oh. I was saying that he was mistaken and this was causing my problems. Obviously not.

Well, it's difficult to work out exactly what he meant by that sentence. From how you worded it, it suggests he said you don't need a heatsink at all, only thermal paste. This is wrong[b/] - you absolutely need a heatsink, and you also absolutely need thermal paste on it. With some coolers you can get away without a fan, but with a quad core, it's strongly recommended that you have one.
