I replaced a hard drive on my brother's Dell with a new one from NewEgg.com. This has been within the last seven or eight months. Now, when it boots up, it says the monitoring system thinks the hard disk is bad? Could it already be messing up, and if so, could something in the computer cause this? For instance, a faulty fan or something of the sort? Thanks in advance for your help!

A buggy mainboard can cause this, or a really bad power supply, or it might be a dead drive; a drive killed by one of these things or by lack of ventilation. ...Or it might just have died; usually drives only die in the first month or after a couple of years or more...but they can fail any time.

do you have anti-surge protection as surges can take things out
mostly surges only damage things so you chase around fixing bits all day before realising the motherboards had a surge. you could run a test on the harddrive but so far whenever the drive reports it's failing it inevitably is failing BACK UP YOUR DATA
