Hi I got as a gift a western digital hard drive, and I fixed my buddy's car, he gave a Windows 7 ultimate key and CD( one use )so i can not get another one.

I installed the windows at the time in to a small hard drive 20 gig IDE( my bad) and now, I got a WDCWD5000 AAKS SATA drive.
I would like to install the windows on the on the WD drive very much. I read about people "imaging" the drives in this case so I downloaded a program called Macrium Reflect.

I installed the new hard drive and windows installs the drivers correctly, but dose not show up in My computer window, but it dose with Macrium.

so with Macrium do I have to get windows to "see" my drive before I try this?

one more thing correct me if i am wrong but if i back up my drive that has my OS on it on to the new one there could be no harm done right thanks

Macrium is all you need, as long as it sees the new drive that's all that matters. It will make a copy of the windows drive and install it on the new drive.

Has windows assign a drive letter to the new drive? that might be the reason it's not showing up under "my computer".
