I have a packard bell EASYNOTE F5287,and the switch that turns off the screen when shutting the laptop is defective,because this is an old machine,would it be a good idea just to link this out.ie By-pass it.????

Might as well...just make sure that the "laptop open" is meant to be a closed circuit..."laptop open" might be an open, and the switch is just shorted.
