I am having a lot of issues with my PC freezing and the problem is its not consistent. One day it may not freeze and the next day it will freeze couple times. I do not do gaming, all I do is msn and browsing the net. I do burn some data onto discs but it hasn't froze while doing that, I have the full specs below. I am currently running Windows 7 32 bit, I am going to try installing the 64 bit option to see if that helps. freezing could be caused by many different things... can you be a bit more specific about what you were doing when it froze... you may have a problematic power supply or other component somewhere... its hard to say without more info
Like I said its not consistent, happens at random times. One day it may not freeze at all and the next day it might freeze once or twice. I am usually browsing the internet or chatting on msn. I do burn media to disc but has never froze while doing that. I also use a newsgroup to download and don't experience freezing with that. It is in a ventilated area. It sits in a compartment in my desk with an open back and I leave the front door on the desk open so it has plenty of air flow. I am going to try installing the 64 bit version and see if that helps. I am a computer tech and understand it could be anything that's causing this. At the same time I don't want to replace multiple parts as I would be better off with a new PC. Would also like to add, when it does freeze the screen looks crystal clear as it would be under regular use. I have noticed that if there is anything open like web browser or folders you can't open them and a few minutes later it freezes. I remember at work we had PC's that would freeze but they would be pixelated and funny colors and it ended up being the motherboard/onboard video. So I hope you can help!
its a pitty you have random freezes under low load.. freezing is one of the hardest problems to diagnose.. solely because it could be any part that is problematic... if the screen is crystal clear on freeze then i wouldnt assume it was a gpu problem as usually gpu probs result in black or blue screens if it was memory then the pc would usually bsod or just refuse to boot i doubt its the cpu as most times when a cpu is faulty you wont even get a post you say your airflow/cooling is adequate... maybe check/clean fans and heatsinks so that leaves ... psu..hdd..operating system..and mobo swap out you hard drive see if it helps reformat is always a good option for all problems if its non of the above then generally speaking new psu and mobo = new computer let me know how it goes
I re-installed windows 7 x64 and I really haven't had much time to test it out. I'll have time over the weekend to use it, maybe let it run over night. If it does freeze it might be the motherboard or psu. I have a 100GB 2.5" drive lying around I couls try out if it keeps freezing. I looked at TigerDirect.ca for a new PSU. Its an ultra 750W with good cable management. You would think 500watt would be enough but maybe its not getting enough power, oddly though my system is only 2 years old, you would think you'd get longer life out of it.
Okay so I reinstalled Windows 7 x64 and been running fine for about two or three days and it froze. Only once in the past few days but it froze the same way, was just browsing the net and on msn, display was clear. I have the latest drivers installed. Any ideas what it could be? Is it the PSU or motherboard?
That is linked to my own thread. My PC did freeze two or three times yesterday while using it for msn and browsing the net. All I can think of doing is to warranty the motherboard and if that doesn't work buy a new PSU
