i have a hp s3811uk model,only 15months old the power light works and that's it ,can't hear the hard drive and not booting up.. could the battery on the motherboard be the problem or is it something else
motherboard battery is for cmos chip which holds the time & date plus other info so won't cause this problem. try another psu as 12 volts side of psu might be dead if no fans spining. check the silver flat topped cans on the motherboard which are capacitors that none are domed or leaking brown stuff.
fan is spining, silver toped cans look ok , could the hard drive be knackerd ,no nozies from hdd or onboard grahics card .
i haven't got a psu that will fit ,without takin completely to bits the psu is only 1 inch deep .3 inch wide ,10 inchs long ,like a flat obblong, what about a small/micro graphics card
& that is 1 of the reasons i don't like namebrand computers. is it still under warranty tho doubt it?
get yourself a new case with psu & a new motherboard compatible with your cpu, ram & drives. strip the dead pc of those parts & install them into new case & motherboard. reload windows if possible off your recovery disk tho i don't think that will work unless you get new board with similar chipset as old board.
NO GO BACK TO PC WORLD tell them trading standards told you you ought to expect 5 years from your pc, 15 months is not long enough and you want a replacement the 12 months is what you are told is your warranty period but the sale of goods act says you can reasonably expect high ticket price goods to last longer no-one is gonna buy a pc that costs £500 if it was only going to last a year you have rights, use them, speak to the assistant manager, he is usually more helpful than the manager and can change his mind if you are pushy the manager tends to be intractable we have had success with pc world in portsmouth twice now and once at currys their job is to fob you off your job is to get value for money
