hi guys, my pc has suddenly started to switch itself off no warnings or nothing. i know it sounds serious so need some info of what problem could be.
it is a non name pc (private bought) 2g mem 1g hd it has a seperate graphics (nvidia) card, running windows XP, it is approx 2yrs old it has 3 fans 1 side, 1 front, 1 rear power(less than yr old). i dont run anything major gaming or such. im a poker junkie so rarely use games on it.
i was thinking maybe hard drive failing (fingers crossed it isnt)so any help appreciated, any more info needed let me know.

    More likely a thermal problem.

Check your fans CPU and case for proper operation

Boot into the BIOS setup and look at the CPU temperature. If it continues to rise and not stop, then your CPU fan or the temp sensir is bad.

You can use the the free program speedfan, it will tell you your cpu temperature inside windows in realtime.

What is your cpu brand, you can find the max temp on this list.

thanks guys, before i go into any of your suggestions i did a virus scan and my avast found a trojan win32. so i dont know if this could switch pc off? i moved to chest as AVP suggested.
i said in the thread that i didnt play games, well my 14 yr old son had downloaded a dodgy copy of a game, thats where the trojan came from.
and he has his own pc.

I have seen antivirus software shutdown a computer instantly without a BSOD or any other type of warning. But it is very rare. You can try using a different antivirus software that is better at finding virus/malware in real time.

well guys dont know quite yet if its solved, but i had a look inside case and all the fans were a bit clogged up with dust, well the the main cpu fan was thick actually i couldnt see the back of it,so i did an early spring clean (no i am not a mucky filthy dirty slob)we had a bit of work done in the room where pc is so i must say it hasnt been covered properly.
so i am going to give it a try tonight and will let you know if that was the problem.
