PCI Wireless card not detected

I just purchased a HiRO H50170 PCI Wireless card. I installed the Drivers/Software from the CD that it came with, and in the software it says "No Wireless Card". The System is running WIndows XP Professional SP3. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you may not have the card fully seated. if it does not show up in device manager it might just be a tight fit and need a bit of gentle force to fully seat. could also try another PCI slot.

 

The actual computer detects the card, however the software included with the card does not. I have tried manually installing the drivers, and yet it still doesn't work.

Does it show in device manager, is there any conflicts showing on it (yellow warning signs), possibly download the driver from the website here for the card and OS you are using and manualy install again from device manager.

 

Yes, it does detect it in device detector however it does not say that the drivers are installed even when they are.


I tried reinstalling the drivers manually many times, however when I use the device manager it finds what it is, however the computer freezes on copying "rtl8185.sys" to C:\\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS

It recognizes the device as a "54M Wireless LAN Network Adapter"

 

What i would do is go to device manager Right click the wireless NIC, choose properties, click the driver tab, then uninstall. then go to add and remove programs in control panel and uninstall any thing to do with the NIC.

Then reboot comp, let it pick the NIC up again, close any prompts to install any drivers etc that may pop up. Put your NIC CD in the drive, go back to device manager, right click on the NIC (this may show as an unidentified device with a yellow warning sign), select properties, driver tab, update driver, select no not at this time on pop up box, next, select install from a list or specific location, next, check search CD, next, then it should search the CD and automatically install the driver. If it installs correctly you should see it appear in the task bar. I would not bother installing the software as windows does a good enough job itself.

 

Even when I install the drivers it still says it is an "Ethernet Controller" And it refuses to let me reinstall/update the drivers without crashing the computer.

The computer keeps crashing whenever it tries to copy anything to the windows/system32/drivers directory through an installer.

I can copy the files manually but that doesnt work.

It wont let me install the drivers from the device manager.

Should I keep trying to get it to work or should i just buy a new wireless card? This was the only wireless pci card that I saw that had a half height bracket.

 

Thats where I got the files for manually installing the driver from. It isn't working for me even though downloading that file multiple times and trying.

 

it could be a bad nic, rma it if you can.

 

I've decided to stop trying to get the card to work. I bought a USB wireless adapter and it works fine. Thanks for the help though.
