I am having problems connecting a hp officejet j4580 all in one printer to an hp pavilion slimline s7600n. I put in the driver disk install software when it gets to the point where i connect the printer thru usb to the computer it takes some time before telling me install failed i have tried many times with the same outcome.Went to hp website to get latest drivers ,I even did disk cleanup before as it recommended no help and i tried selective startup with load startup items unchecked still no good There both HP I thought this would be easy if anyone could help that would be great Thanks.

is it a new printer or old?
Could be that the usb port in your computer is malfunctioning or the usb cables on the printer might be faulty (ben) - has happened to me before.

If its a new one same question as `ddp`.

i ran into same problem as you with a customer's computer with freshly installed xp pro sp3 with a hp 3in1 printer. tried both small & large driver setups & kept getting an error & install failed. had to go back with another hard drive & only install xp pro sp2 then tried small driver setup which worked then the large driver setup which also worked. installed sp3 & other programs plus updates then did a print test that printed ok.
